How to enter a German meeting prepared

A concise guide to agendas, interventions and decision records in German workplace meetings.

Team reviewing an agenda during a workplace meeting

Preparation often carries more weight than spontaneous eloquence. Read the agenda, understand the requested decision and bring the numbers or examples behind your position.

Find the purpose

Ask whether the meeting is for exploration, recommendation or approval. If key people have already discussed the issue, learn where your contribution fits rather than assuming the room begins from zero.

Make a precise intervention

State the point, evidence and implication. If you disagree, name the practical risk rather than circling around it. A calm “I see a delivery risk in week three because…” is easier to answer than broad discomfort.

Record what changed

Before leaving, confirm the owner, deadline and decision. A short written record prevents later disagreement and helps colleagues who were absent.
